ENGAGE IN

In the very early morning, I have been able to feed my mind about healthy thoughts and a dose of inspiration.

According to John C. Maxwell, the author of the bestselling book Today Matters, "It's a fact that you become more like the people you spend time with. If you desire to increase your faith, spend time with others who exercise theirs. Learn from them. Find out how they think."

The statement hit me to the bones. It's as if reminding me to live with a company worth to keep. I aspire to live in the principle of building relationships based on trust and respect. In my 24 years of existence, I do believe that man is a social animal. We really need others to live.

But, such notion doesn't stop there. We need others but we have to be very careful in choosing people whom we want to spend our time with. Ideally, it's good to keep a company of brilliant people who think outside the box. It's a good opportunity for us to learn many new things from them. As the saying goes, "Birds of the same feather flock together." On one hand, it's better to keep fraction of our time to engage in people who inspire us to live according to God's purpose. They are these people who value faith. They are those who live God's words through their actions. In short, they are men for others.

Everyone of us wants to live a life based on better relationships and financial security. But, it doesn't necessarily mean that we have to compare ourselves with others. As Desiderata stresses it out," If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself." Furthermore, it is very difficult to live entangled on the desire to live like what others do.

In fact, the most important discovery in life is to find ourselves down the road. By the time we find ourselves, our true identity, we are able to sketch a character based on our aspirations to live by.

Our ultimate ordeal is to be men for others. Being men for others nudges us to get to know ourselves better. Once we do, everything else follows. To engage in service for others by spending our time with them, it becomes a lifetime significance.

For in the end, the fact that we become more like the people we spend time with reminds us to really engage in...
