I AM SORRY

If only I could speak on this tree's behalf, I should say 'Thou shall not kill me'. I was unfortunate enough to witness the end of this mango tree in our yard which, for how many years, stood the test of time. That makes it a seasonal tree which endured a lot of nature's wrath including earthquakes, heavy rains, typhoons, among others. But none of these natural catastrophes toppled or uprooted it. It just surrendered or, I shall say up to its last minute breath, protested to man's quest for that fuckin' thing called money. My father said that the tree was already there when he and his wife (my mother) moved to this place way back in 1971. As I was calculating, I was amazed how this tree has withstood the tests of time for almost 50 years. And suddenly, this long life span for somebody or something like that tree haunted me how powerful man is. This power which is bestowed upon him makes all other things vulnerable, which includes the tree.

It was Black Saturday when I witnessed the event. At the very least, the day was associated with man's dark sides caused by capitalists' self-centered drives. On a lighter note, I was happy to see its last swaying moments. But I felt more regretful to this pain inflicted to it caused by man's desire for money. I couldn't blame the person who was courageous enough to end its life nor the circumstance which pushed him to do so. I just entrust it to the One, divine or not, who is authorized to give him that divine or human judgment.

Upon seeing the scene, I have this nostalgic feeling rekindling my childhood years that neither two of us (the tree and me) can touch. I have been reminded by the past telling me how far I've come a long way from where I began. And this tree was one of those which saw it. Lucky me, for the situation gives me that thought that life is indeed precious. But the tree was unfortunate enough that it just settled itself to the selfish desires of man, of which I feel so guilty.

Blaming is not the answer nor naming names can help giving it the power to be back to life. On humankind's behalf, accept my sincere apology. I am sorry.

  1. Trees are shield, trees are gift of god. Trees are friend of people, how can we get oxygen with out trees. We can do many things through trees. Furniture, huoses, eventhough firewood are the tree uses. Some people cut trees without replacing It. They don't knew what will happened if trees are loosen. Floods, erosion and other calamities will occur to some places if they continue cutting trees. Not only loggers are capable of this situation. All people should knew about this things, how about those land that are not use. We should plant trees of those area. For us to help our environment and our selves. That's why we should love our self, environment and other people. Plant trees to have a better place.
