TEST OF FAITH

There are times that instances test our faith. We can look our way back, but we are bound to keep moving forward. According to the Filipino author Bo Sanchez, our past does not define our future. This is underscored further by L.P. Hartley that the past is a foreign country. Well, this holds true to situations of turning over a new leaf, changing for the better, having the courage to keep going the extra mile no matter what we've been through.

On the flip side, there are situations in our lives that somehow make us think that our past has something to do with how we live the present and the future. For instance, during our weakest hours attributed by our declining health, we can say that what we did before has its part on what and how we are feeling right here today. Skipping meals, improper diet, lack of physical activities, overfatigue and burnout, among others, for example, cause our body to generate acids and chemicals that may harm our general health.

On a personal point of view, I really believe the wisdom of this thought: "Our health is our wealth." Despite our busy hours everyday, we have to keep fraction of our time to look after our health. What we're aiming and working for will go to no avail if all of such would be at the expense of our health. We are what food we take in. So, water up a lot. Eat fruits and vegetables. Follow a balanced diet. Sweat out a lot. Don't skip meals. We are bound to take good care of our body--being the temple of our soul God has entrusted to us. As what Fr. Jade Tillo, one of the rectors at San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral Parish in Surigao City, once said in his homily during the Ash Wednesday mass that our very existence is immortal. We have this eternal soul living in a temporary body.

I just wanna share my thoughts on this topic after recovering, in God's grace, from severe stress and overfatigue which resulted to intolerable nausea, among other symptoms lasted for almost a month. I was really ill to the extent that my faith and resilience were tested. Aside from my doctors' pieces of medical advice, I also tried subscribing, for the first time, to this traditional medicine or "binisaya" which, as it turned out, really helped boosting my self-esteem and my courage to live more.

Our past is, indeed, a foreign country. But, if we don't learn anything from it, instances will keep testing our well-being until we learn something from it worth to live by for a lifetime. Today is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad. As long as we're still alive, we must always be thankful for God's divine love that is purest, sincerest, and everlasting. After all, love is God and God is love.
